Dietitian is a health professional area that organizes plans and programs of individual and collective nutrition in line with the principles of nutritional science to protect, improve the health of all individuals, growth, development, and lifetime. It investigates, evaluates, and finds solutions to health problems arising from nutrients and nutrition to ensure that the existing nutritional resources are used in accordance with the economy and health rules. It manages, controls, and informs the individual and society in order to adapt physiologically, psychologically and sociologically healthy lifestyles. It raises awareness, plans a diet program according to the composition of natural and therapeutic foods, suitable for medical and surgical treatments in congenital and acquired diseases and other special cases. It provides, plans, implements, and monitors educational programs to growth, development, and life-long health (Definition of dietician according to Turkish Standard - TS 13114 - April 2004 - ICS 03.040; 03.100.30).
A dietician is a person who has completed nutrition and dietetics education-training program of any health-related Higher Education Institution at least four years (5 years with one year of preparation). It is entitled to do and practice the profession of dietitian by receiving the title of “Dietitian” with “Nutrition and Dietetics Bachelor Diploma.”
Dietitians can be employed in outpatient or inpatient treatment institutions, nursing homes, food factories, food and beverage departments of hotels, private or public institutions that product mass nutrition is provided, sports health centers, special nutrition-diet centers, food-pharmaceutical industry, education and research institutions.
Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nutrition and Dietetics was established in 2011 with the decree of the Council of Higher Education dated 21.09.2011 and numbered B.30.0. EÖB-101.03-6394. In our department, there are four divisions: Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics, Community Nutrition and Collective Nutrition Systems. There are 1 Assoc. Prof., 5 Asst. Prof., 1 Res. Asst. and 1 Res. Asst. is continuing her education within the scope of the Higher Education Council Instructor Training Program. Student admission has started in the 2020-2021 academic year in our department.
